Giant Bicycles
Giant Manufacturing Co, Ltd of Taiwan is the largest bicycle maker in the world. The firm has factories in Taiwan, Netherlands, China and Hungary.
Giant was started in 1972, but the company really took off when it got a contract to make Schwinn bicycles in 1977. When Schwinn left Giant in 1987, the firm aggressively worked to establish its own brand and by 2018, "Giant" branded bikes were sold in 50 countries. By then the company was selling more the 6.6 million bikes a rear, worth about $1.9 billion.

Here's a 1953 ad featuring a very young Jacques Anquetil, just 19 years old. He's riding for the AC Sottevillais amateur team in these ads. Later in the year he would turn pro for the La Perle pro team. In 1953 Anquetil won the Grand Prix des Nations time trial, GP di Lugano and was second with Antonin Rolland in the Trofeo Baracchi two-man time trial. And he was just getting started. He would eventually win the Tour de France five times.

Anquetil's talent was obvious early on.

Here's the second page of the ad.
