AVA has a long history: The French bicycle parts company AVA (Établissements Métallurgiques du Rhône) was established in 1889 and was one of the early French bicycle component manufacturers. It operated under the leadership of Henry Gormand, who also served as CEO for the sister company, Mavic.

Over its history the company not only made rims, it also manufactured stems, handlebars and seatposts.

Most notably, AVA rims were used on Raleigh Professional bicycles in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Mavic appears to have discontinued the brand sometime in the 1970s.

  • The maker's AVA decals are long gone from these rims, but the red labels around the valve stem holes says they are AVA-made.
  • These rims were not made any later that 1968 because the valve stem decals say "S.G.D.G", an abbreviation for "Breveté Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement" (patent without government guarantees). It was a form of patent that ended in 1968.
  • We have two of these rims in stock.
  • These rims weigh 390 grams each.

Here are the rims.

The only labels the rims have. The decals have "S.G.D.G.", meaning they were made no later than 1968.
