Campagnolo 8-speed cassettes are not compatible with 9- and 10-speed hubs. They have different spline patterns. The reverse is also true. You cannot fit 9- and 10-speed cassettes/cogs on an 8-speed freehub.

A given 9- or 10-speed cassette has two kinds of cogs. The outside cog (1st position), which has its own integral spacer, and the rest of the cogs. You must use the correct first-position sprocket. If you are setting up a 9-speed cassette, you must use a 9-speed first position sprocket. The same is true of a 10-speed set-up.

In general, cogs mounted after the first position are interchangeable between 9- and 10-speed systems. But there are exceptions and we have noted them in the individual cog listings.

There are two kinds of Campagnolo 9 & 10-speed cassettes. The original 9-speed Exa-Drive sprockets have a two-step indentation to help pick up the chain, greatly enhancing shifting. Unannounced, in the spring of 2000, Campagnolo started shipping an improved version of Exa-Drive, called Ultra-Drive. The Exa- & Ultra- Drive cogs are interchangeable and can be mixed in a single cassette.
